Offices and branches offering 150 job seekers the opportunity to experience a full day’s job shadowing, career orientation, CV clinics and interviews
24 April 2017: The Adecco Group UK&I, the world’s leading provider of workforce solutions, opens up its offices for the first ‘Experience Work Day’ on 26 April, as part of its worldwide Adecco Way to WorkTM programme.
Recent ONS stats show that as of the end of December 2016, 11.5% of all young people in the UK were not in education, employment or training and almost half (42%) of these were available and looking for work. The best way to get a job is through experience. However, this is precisely what the overwhelming majority of school leavers lack. Most have had no exposure to the labour market, and many have little idea about their future careers, the options available to them or indeed what kind of profession best suits their skills, personalities and aspirations.
Experience Work Day candidates will be given the unique opportunity to visit The Adecco Group’s offices and branches and gain valuable guidance on careers, job hunting, applications and interviews, as they prepare to enter the workforce. On the day, job seekers will get a real taste for the world of work by being paired up with The Adecco Group employees, across various departments and roles, to shadow during their typical duties. The initiative gives them an insight into the opportunities of working life, the variety of career paths available and a first-hand experience of what specific jobs look like.
Alongside career shadowing, Experience Work Day participants at The Adecco Group’s headquarters in London can attend workshops led by career and job placement experts from LinkedIn, on subjects such as CV writing, the importance of an online personal brand, networking and what employers look for online. Head office participants will also hear first-hand from Claire Houston, 2015’s UK&I CEO for One Month winner and current Strategy and Innovation Analyst at The Adecco Group UK & Ireland, about her experience of getting into the world of work.
Alain Dehaze, The Adecco Group’s Global CEO, will also be in the UK to attend the day. Alongside senior leadership he will be visiting The Adecco Group branches across London to meet the candidates throughout the day.
Chris Moore, President, Group Operations, The Adecco Group UK & Ireland, commented:
“One of the best ways to help people prepare for the world of work is by showing them how to get involved with certain career paths, and the steps they will need to take to succeed. By opening our doors to job seekers, we are aiming to give them an opportunity to find out more about the realities of the careers they are interested in and how to prepare for them.”
“Faced with a growing skills gap, initiatives like our Experience Work Day will not only help prepare people on their ‘way to work’ but also go a long way in better aligning educational outputs and business requirements. Opening up a dialogue between businesses and candidates about the skills required now, and in 10 and 20 years’ time, is vital to the success of the UK’s future digital economy.”
The Adecco Group launched the Adecco Way to WorkTM programme in 2013 to tackle issues including unemployment and skills shortages, develop people’s employability, and help them enter the world of work. Through Adecco Way to WorkTM, The Adecco Group provides people with internships and apprenticeships (over 10,500 globally between 2015 and 2016), career guidance and training, an opportunity to be the ‘CEO for One Month’ and to participate in Experience Work Day.
